The New York City area is set to experience extreme heat later this week following a cooler start.
According to NBC New York, temperatures are expected to exceed 90°F (32°C) starting Thursday, with humidity levels also rising significantly.

Why It's Important?

The extreme heat and high humidity levels pose a risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for those spending extended periods outdoors or engaging in strenuous activities. Vulnerable populations, such as the elderly, children, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions, are at heightened risk. The heat index values nearing 100°F (38°C) could lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, or heat stroke if precautions are not taken.
